Mohammed Siraj has been announced as the replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah against SA

In a huge blow to Team India, Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of T20 World Cup with a back injury, India has called up Mohammed Siraj for the remainder of their home T20I series against South Africa.

Mohammed Siraj was not named a standby player for India’s T20 World Cup squad, with selectors instead opting for Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar for the T20 World Cup in Australia. It remains unclear if Siraj will travel Down Under as a reserve should Bumrah be ruled out.

Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. While an official confirmation from the Board of Control from Cricket in India is awaited, the signs have not been great as Bumrah pulled out of India’s series opener against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

BCCI had informed of Bumrah’s injury just minutes before the toss vs SA in 1st T20I

BCCI had informed of Bumrah’s injury just minutes before the toss took place at the Greenfield Stadium. “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first T20I,” BCCI had tweeted.

India has a 1-0 series lead in the three-match series
