Bumrah and Boult strangle SRH
In the 9th match of IPL 2021, Mumbai Indians were up against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The defending champions successfully defended their total of 150 runs, eventually winning it by 13 runs.
Mumbai won the toss and decided to bat first in Chennai.
After winning the last match, Rohit Sharma’s side were full of confidence.
Both the openers made a good start.
A 55-run partnership between Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma laid a great foundation for MI.
De Kock was in good form after having two bad games. He made 40 of 39 balls with 5 fours and his partner, skipper Rohit Sharma made 32 runs of 25 with 2 sixes and 2 fours.
After losing Sharma in the 7th over, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav failed to score big runs.
It was required for someone to step up and score a few runs to post a decent total.
Like he has done many times in the past, Windies skipper Kieron Pollard stole the show with a sensational innings.
He was on fire from the first delivery itself. His quick-fire 35 runs of 22 balls with 3 massive sixes helped Mumbai Indians to reach 150 at the end of their 20 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers were lacking in consistency.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled poorly as he gave 45 runs in 4 overs with no wickets.
However, Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Vijay Shankar bowled well, taking two wickets each.
Khaleel Ahmed also took one wicket, but No.1 T 20 bowler in the world, Rashid Khan was wicketless in his four overs.
Great start by SRH
Sunrisers Hyderabad were required to chase 150 in order to secure their first win of IPL 2021.
From the 1st over, skipper Warner and Jonny Bairstow were on fire as they destroyed the fast bowlers of Mumbai Indians. With their aggressive and explosive hitting, they helped Sunrisers reach 67 in just 7.1 overs before Bairstow fell.
Bairstow made 43 runs in just 22 balls with 4 fantastic sixes and 3 fours.
Unfortunately, he got out hit wicket off the bowling of Krunal Pandya.
This was the turning point of the match.
The wickets started to tumble starting with Manish Pandey, whose batting horror show continued.
Things went horribly wrong when captain Warner got run out.
He made 36 runs off 34 balls with 2 sixes and 2 fours.
Vijay Shankar looked good in his innings of 28 runs, but sadly, lacked support from the other as the batters fell like ninepins.
Sunrisers were all out on 137 runs as they lost by 13 runs.
The Mumbai bowlers made fabulous comeback after not getting any wicket in first 7 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah was in sublime form giving only 14 runs in 4 over with 12 dot balls.
Trent Boult also took 3 wickets including the last wicket of the match.
Rahul Chahar put in another sterling performance with 3 wickets but it was Krunal Pandya who bagged possibly, the most important wicket of the innings, namely that of Bairstow.
