India faced a significant setback on November 19 as they lost the ODI World Cup 2023 final to Australia by 6 wickets in Ahmedabad. Despite being unbeaten throughout the tournament, the Men in Blue couldn’t secure a win when it mattered the most. The Indian team will now have to wait until the next ODI World Cup scheduled for 2027.

In the aftermath, Suryakumar Yadav, India’s star middle-order batter and the no. 1 ranked T20I batter, discussed the upcoming T20 World Cup set for the following year. Suryakumar expressed the team’s intention to perform well in upcoming major events and carry the same playing style into the T20 World Cup as seen in the recently concluded ODI World Cup. However, fans criticized his statement, citing his subpar performance in the final match of the ODI tournament, and expressing concerns about a potential repeat in the T20 World Cup.

“We will try to be good in upcoming major tournaments & will play next year’s T20 WC the same way we played this time & we are hopeful of winning it next year,” Suryakumar said.

Seeing Prime Minister Narendra Modi among us was a big thing: Suryakumar Yadav

The loss in the ODI World Cup final left numerous fans heartbroken, and it wasn’t just the supporters—several players, including India captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, were seen in tears after the match. In a comforting turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian dressing room to console the players. Suryakumar acknowledged this compassionate gesture from PM Modi, describing it as a significant and meaningful act.

“We all were disappointed, and seeing Prime Minister Narendra Modi among us was a big thing. He met everyone and told us to move on, as it happens in the sport. His motivational words and meeting us were big as he is the country’s leader. We listened to him carefully and will try to follow his suggestions,” Suryakumar was quoted as saying by Cric Today.
