Discarded India wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson hit a hundred for Kerala against Railways in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023. In the match, the Railways batted first after losing the toss at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The team had a poor start as they lost two wickets for 19 runs. At this stage, Pratham Singh and Yuvraj Singh put together 148 runs for the third wicket. The latter remained unbeaten on 122.
On the other hand, Pratham (61) scored a fifty. After this partnership was broken, wicketkeeper Upendra Yadav (31) and Yuvraj added another 62 runs for the fifth wicket. They ended up getting 255/5. For the South Indian side, Vaisakh Chandran took two wickets while Basil Thampi, Akhin Sathar, and Akhil Scaria took one wicket each. In reply, Kerala lost four wickets for just 59 runs.
At this stage, Samson and Shreyas Gopal put together 138 runs with the latter scoring 53 runs. On the other hand, Samson got 128 runs including eight fours and six sixes. At this point, it looked like the team would win the game. However, the India wicketkeeper didn’t get enough partners at the other end which meant that the team lost the game by 18 runs.
Sanju Samson included in the ODI series against South Africa
The Rajasthan Royals skipper in the IPL has been included in the squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. He missed out in the five-match T20I series against Australia right after the ODI World Cup 2023.
