Mark Wood out of third Test

England’s fast bowling woes continue to multiply.

In a big blow, the England and Wales Cricket Board on Monday announced that fast bowler Mark Wood will not be part of the 3rd Test between India and England.

Wood has been ruled out of the Headingley Test, starting August 25, due to a “jarred right shoulder”.

Wood will remain with the rest of the squad in Leeds and will undergo rehabilitation.

The fast bowler will also be assessed at the completion of the Leeds Test.

Wood, who took five wickets in the second Test at Lord’s, sustained the injury when he tried to stop Rishabh Pant from collecting a boundary in the 74th over of India’s innings.

Wood landed heavily on his right shoulder while diving headlong into an advertising hoarding.

After receiving attention from the physio, Wood went off the field on Day 4.

However, on the final day, he bowled a short burst of four overs at India’s lower order. 

England are already missing key bowlers like Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer due to different reasons.

They have included Saqib Mahmood for the third Test of the five-match series in Leeds, set to be played from August 25.

India will be looking to take a 2-0 lead when the two sides meet at Headingley.
