The Malayalam film ‘2018’ became the biggest blockbuster and the second highest-grosser of 2023 in the Malay film industry after Romancham. The movie ‘2018’ shows the devastation caused by the floods in the state of Kerala in the year 2018. It became an instant hit amongst the audience as it showed the true story and brought emotions to life.

Malayalam film ‘2018’ makes its way to the Oscars:

The director of the film Jude Anthany Jose has done splendid work at bringing the horrifying events to life on the big screens. He took his audience through the journey of the people who were severely affected by the drastic and devastating events of 2018 in Kerala. The movie was a looking glass into the struggles of the families, pregnant women, elderly people and others that were affected by the calamities.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared the same on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “#BREAKING: #2018Movie – the Malayalam film will be India’s official entry to the #Oscars2024 (sic).” Check out his viral Tweet below.

On September 27, the Film Federation of India announced that ‘2018’ has been chosen as India’s official entry for Oscars 2024. Talking to a leading daily, the actor Kunchacko Boban said,  “It’s a moment of pride for us. It was wonderful shooting for it and the film broke all records in Kerala. Globally, ‘2018’ was lauded by people and broke many milestones. It documented the emotions of the people, which is why it was relatable to many. Since it is a real story, it managed to reach a wider audience.”

He further added, “Not just the story, the film is technically strong as well. It is a film that deserves the honour. I can’t explain my happiness right now. ‘2018’ is a film that deserves to be placed in the Oscars 2024 race.”
