List of Arjuna Awards winners in Cricket since 2013
Over the years, a lot of female and male cricketers have won Arjuna Awards since 1961. None of the players have won it twice. Talking about the award’s inception, it was instituted in 1961 to honor the outstanding sportspersons of the nations.
The recipients are selected by a committee formed by the Ministry and are honored for their “good performance in the field of sports over four years” at the international level and for having shown “qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.” At present, the award comprises “a bronze statuette of Arjuna, certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakh.
The award is given annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It is the second-highest sporting honor in India after Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. As per the new revisions in 2018, the award is given only to the disciplines included in the events of the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asia Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championship, and World Cup, also including Cricket, Indigenous Games, and Parasports.
The latest winner of the award is Mohammed Shami. He was one of the highest wicket-takers for India and in the tournament despite missing the first four games
