Former Indian cricketer and renowned cricket commentator Aakash Chopra has filed an FIR against Kamlesh Parikh and his son Dhruv Parikh, alleging that he was fraudulently swindled of INR 57.8 lakh in an investment deal related to a shoe business.

Kamlesh Parikh, who previously served as a manager in the Hyderabad Cricket Association, and his son Dhruv Parikh, reportedly entered into an agreement with Aakash Chopra. They were entrusted with an investment of Rs. 57.8 lakh, with the promise of providing a 20% profit on the amount within 30 days.

Both father and son ceased communication: Aakash Chopra

However, according to Chopra’s complaint, he only received Rs. 24.5 lakh from the father-son duo, and the remaining portion of his investment was not returned as per the agreement. This alleged breach of trust prompted the former cricketer to seek legal recourse through the FIR. The FIR has been registered under Section 406 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to criminal breach of trust.

“We entered into a formally notarised agreement which stipulated that Dhruv was to return the money within 30 days with a 20% profit, and post-dated cheques were provided for recovery. However, a year later, only Rs 24.5 lakh has been returned, and two issued cheques were dishonoured,” Chopra said in his FIR quoted by Inside Sport.

“I spoke to Dhruv’s father, Kamlesh, and he promised to honour the agreement on his son’s behalf but failed to do so. Legal notices were served, but both father and son ceased communication, making the recovery of the principal amount, Rs 33.3 lakh, a challenge,” Chopra added.

The case has garnered attention within the cricketing community and is a stark reminder of the need for transparency and due diligence in financial transactions, even among individuals associated with the sport. Earlier, star India cricketer Deepak Chahar also fell into this trap and he was duped for INR 10 lakh.
