Durban Super Giants (DSG) won their second match of the SA20 2024, thanks to a brilliant performance with the bat. On a wicket which was good to bat on, DSG ended up with an above-par total. It meant that they could defend a great total on the board. Batting first, DSG started very well. Quinton De Kock and Matt Breetzke gave them a blazing start. It was continued in the middle overs.

The likes of JJ Smuts and Nicholas Pooran took on the bowlers for fun. The duo scored fifties each and ensured that Sunrisers Eastern Cape stayed out of the match for a long time. Smuts was the aggressor of the two who scored 75 runs in 38 balls including 4 fours and 7 sixes. Pooran on the other hand scored 60 runs in 31 balls which included 5 fours and 4 sixes.

For Sunrisers, the bowling was either a hit or a miss. The new ball duo of Worrall and Marco Jansen managed to contain the runs and claimed wickets as well. In the middle overs, Liam Dawson was economical and effective. Unfortunately, bowlers from the other end leaked runs. The likes of S Harmer and Baartman were very expensive and helped DSG to post 225 runs on the board.

Late resurgence of Sunrisers Eastern Cape not enough

Chasing a huge target, Sunrisers lost two quick wickets. Richard Gleeson and Reece Topley dismissed the opening duo respectively and put pressure on the Sunrisers. Due to the fall of wickets, Sunrisers Eastern Cape took some time to anchor the chase. In the process, they fell behind the chase. When the resurrection started, it was almost game over for the chasing side.

T Abell, Aiden Markram, and Tristan Stubbs tried their best to bring the side back in the game. But by the time they launched the attack on the bowlers, it was a bit too late. Abell batted well and scored 65 runs in 36 balls. Markram and Stubbs scored 29(21) and 55(26) respectively. For DSG, Gleeson was very good with the ball. His spell changed the game as DSG ended up winning by a margin of 35 runs.
