In a poignant appeal that resonated with cricket fans globally, Australian cricket veteran David Warner has implored for the return of his cherished Baggy Green cap. The cap mysteriously went missing during a flight from Melbourne to Sydney ahead of his final Test match against Pakistan this week.

Warner, set to conclude his illustrious 12-year Test career in the upcoming third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, took to Instagram to express his distress over the missing bag, emphasizing the sentimental value of the iconic cap. The baggy green, a symbol of pride and dedication, is traditionally presented to Australian cricketers on the morning of their Test debut.

Warner underscored the emotional significance of the cap, urging the responsible party to return it. In his Instagram post, he stated, “This is my last resort, but my backpack, which contained my Baggy Green, has been taken from my luggage… transported to Melbourne airport and flown… to Sydney a few days ago.”

Appealing directly to the individual involved, Warner expressed his desire to have the Baggy Green back in his possession, especially as he approaches his final appearance on the field. He offered a spare backpack as a replacement, emphasising that the person responsible would not face the consequences if they reached out to Cricket Australia or himself.

The emotional plea reflects the deep connection cricketers share with their baggy green caps, often passed down by former players and worn with pride throughout their Test careers. The incident highlights the symbolic and historic value associated with these iconic cricket symbols. In January 2020, the Baggy Green cap of legendary spinner Shane Warne was auctioned for a whopping A$1,007,500 ($686,913.50).
