The Pakistan-Sri Lanka fixture has been thwarted by rain as the clash is virtually a semi-final. In case of a washout, then Sri Lanka will go through as they have a superior net run rate. Pakistan had a hammering against India in their last game as they succumbed to them by 228 runs. Sri Lanka had a great game against India in their last encounter.

But, India won the game by 41 runs. Rain has always been synonymous with Sri Lanka over the years. In this Asia Cup, the games in Sri Lanka have faced a lot of delays and washouts. It has been raining torrents in the Island nation. The groundsmen have been busy every day with the covers because of frequent rain delays. Sri Lanka was not supposed to host the Asia Cup 2023 in the first place.

Sri Lanka have won the Asia Cup five times

Pakistan were given the sole hosting rights for this edition of the Asia Cup. But because of frosty India-Pakistan relations, Sri Lanka became Asia Cup host at the eleventh hour as India were unwilling to travel to Pakistan to play in the continental tournament. The games in Sri Lanka were given the go-ahead to be held in Colombo despite the weather being iffy.

In a sudden turn of events, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to switch the venues after the Group stage was over to Hambantota. However, since India expressed concerns of hotels and accommodations there and since Pakistan were also not ready to travel to Hambandota the venue of the Super Four stage was moved back to Colombo.

Sri Lanka have done remarkably well without their first-rate players in home conditions. They have used the spin conducive pitches to their advantage and have given a good account of themselves in the multilateral tournament. India on the other hand have gotten better with each game and have made it to the final of the tournament.
