KL Rahul cleared to play; set to lead Team India in Zimbabwe
Indian star opener KL Rahul is all set to lead Team India in the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
The BCCI has appointed KL Rahul as the captain of the side and named Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy.
KL Rahul has been out of the Indian side due to injury and was supposed to play the West Indies series, but missed it due to testing positive for COVID-19.
Since his fitness issue was not cleared, he was not named initially named to the Zimbabwe squad.
Shikhar Dhawan was named as captain for the Zimbabwe tour, as the plan was to see a fully fit KL Rahul play for Asia Cup.
However, with the fitness issues being cleared, KL Rahul will be leading the side for the Zimbabwe tour.
Since he is the Vice-Captain of the limited overs format for Team India, Rohit Sharma’s unavailability means Rahul will get a chance to lead the side.
Shikhar has been relegated to vice-captain for the series.
The side remains unchanged, with only KL Rahul strengthening the squad to 16.
There will be some key players missing, with Jasprit Bumrah, Shami, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer as they all have been rested.
For Ruturaj Gaikwad it will be tough to break into the side with KL Rahul coming in
Jasprit Bumrah is out of the Asia Cup 2022 tournament as well due to a back injury he is suffering from.
