Pakistan skipper Babar Azam forgot that his teammate, Saud Shakeel had made his international debut in 2021. The latter played the third ODI against Afghanistan on August 26. He scored nine runs and got run out. Meanwhile, in the end, the Green Brigade won the game comfortably and became the world’s number-one ODI side.

After the game, Azam spoke about how he asked Shakeel if he was making his debut. The former forgot that the left-hander plays Test cricket and made his international debut in 2021.

“I told him at the toss that he was debuting. Sorry about that [he has played before]. He is playing spin very well, so we included him in the Asia Cup,” Azam said in the post-match.

Saud Shakeel was named in the Asia Cup 2023

The Sind player has been added to the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Ahead of the ODI series against Afghans, Shakeel was only selected for the ODI series. However, given the middle-order issues, Shakeel and Tayyab Tahir have been named in the squad.
