After a disheartening defeat to Sri Lanka in the Super Fours clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam, displayed a rare outburst of frustration as he addressed his teammates. Sources within the team reveal that Babar, known for his calm demeanour, had stern words for his colleagues.

Pakistan suffered a 2-wicket loss to Sri Lanka on September 14. Opting to bat first, Pakistan managed to score 252 runs in 42 overs. Thanks to Mohammad Rizwan (86 off 73 balls) and Iftikhar Ahmed (47 off 40 balls). Defending the target, Pakistan bowlers displayed a disappointing performance as Sri Lanka achieved the title with 2 wickets in hand.

Azam’s message was clear: “Khud ko zyada superstars na samjhein, World Cup sir pe hai. Agar hum ek ho kar khelte toh match jeet sakte thai,” which translates to “Don’t think you guys are superstars; World Cup is around the corner, if we play as one, we will win.” Babar was quoted as saying by Crictoday. These words reflect his desire for unity and teamwork within the squad.

Pakistan to face India in ODI World Cup 2023 on October 14

The loss to Sri Lanka had undoubtedly stung, and Babar’s emotional response highlights the high stakes and intense pressure that come with cricketing clashes between the two nations. Babar’s call for unity is a reminder that success in cricket often depends on collaboration and a collective effort, rather than individual brilliance alone. It would be interesting to see how the Men in Green will bounce back in future considering the upcoming major world tournament.

As Pakistan regroups and looks ahead, Babar’s message may serve as a rallying cry for the team to come together and strive for better performances in the upcoming ODI World Cup which is set to be held in India on October 5. Pakistan will now face the Men in Blue on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
