IPL: Kartik Tyagi’s last over derails Punjab

Punjab Kings faced a bad case of chase gone wrong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium when Rajasthan Royals clinched a win from the jaws of defeat.

Mustafizur Rehman and Kartik Tyagi’s death-over bowling saved the day for the Royals.

With four needed in the last over and eight wickets in Punjab’s hand, Tyagi conceded only one run to stop the Kings batter from reaching the 186-run target.

The 20-year-old dismissed in-form Nicholas Pooran and hard-hitter Deepak Hooda in a matter of three deliveries to change the game.

The WASP had a 100% prediction in the Kings favour, but Tyagi had other plans that took the Kings by surprise.

Jasprit Bumrah, the Mumbai Indian pace spearhead and death-over specialist, was also in awe of Tyagi’s final over.

He took it to Twitter to hail the youngster who showed nerves of steel.

Jaiswal impresses again

Speaking of a youngster, there seems to be another Indian star in the making.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 49 off 36 to give the Royals a solid foundation in the powerplay.

His partnership with Evin Lewis allowed Rajasthan to go for a big total.

Jaiswal, 19, has had limited games handed to him since RR are brimming with batting juggernauts.

The absence of Jos Buttler at the top allowed him to showcase his case again.

So far, he has been making a solid case for a permanent spot in the team, putting up a chunk of runs whenever he’s handed the opportunity to open the innings.

His development from a naïve U19 star to a well-rounded T20 opener in the Royals camp showcases how well India grooms their young prodigies.

Lomror makes his mark

Mahipal Lomror, 21, provided with the boost that Royals had been looking for at the death.

His 17-ball 43 propelled the Royals to 185.

Had it not been for the 21-year-old’s knock, Sanju Samson’s men would not have crossed the 150-mark.

Agarwal makes a much-needed return

Although, the Kings suffered an unwelcoming loss, but Mayank Agerwal’s sensational return to form is something the Punjab fans will cherish.

For years, Agerwal and captain KL Rahul have sizzled at the top and let their bats talk.

While Rahul maintained his run flow, Agarwal fell behind this season. However, his 67 off 43 against Royals has revived his form.

With Chris Gayle losing his touch, he needs to pile up quick runs with Rahul to let the middle order make full use of the second quarter.

He’s a sweet timer of the white ball, but his inconsistent scores have often hurt the Kings with the bat.

If he carries his form into the next games, thumping Rahul’s men won’t be an easy task.

Arshdeep’s fifer goes in vain

Arshdeep Singh registered his first IPL five-wicket haul to show how a fast bowler can excel on flat tracks if he bowls in the right channels.

But seeing his fifer go in vain doesn’t sit well with cricket fans.

The left-arm 21-year-old pacer dismissed Lewis, Liam Livingstone, Lomror, Chris Morris and Chetan Sakariya.

Rajasthan Royals 185 (Jaiswal 49, Lomror 43, Arshdeep 5-32, Shami 3-21) beat Punjab Kings 183 for 4 (Agarwal 67, Rahul 49, Tyagi 2-29, Tewatia 1-23) by two runs.
