The Karnali Yaks cemented their place in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) playoffs with a decisive 36-run victory against the Lumbini Lions. Meanwhile, despite their efforts, the Kathmandu Gurkhas were eliminated from contention following their recent defeat.

Batting first, the Yaks posted a competitive total of 135 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Middle-order contributions played a key role, stabilizing the innings after a shaky start. Lumbini Lions’ bowling attack, led by their pacers, managed to restrict Karnali to a chaseable score but lacked the finishing spark.

In response, the Lions struggled under the mounting pressure of the Yaks’ disciplined bowling unit. Karnali’s spinners dominated the middle overs, picking crucial wickets and ensuring the Lions never built momentum. The Lions fell short by 36 runs, sealing Karnali’s spot in the playoffs.

It was a heart-wrenching day for the Kathmandu Gurkhas as they officially exited the tournament. Their inconsistent performances throughout the season left them needing other results to favor their playoff aspirations, which ultimately didn’t materialize.

Karnali Yaks’ stellar performance underlines their determination to go deep into the tournament, setting up an exciting playoff phase in the NPL.
