Multan Sultans won the game against Karachi Kings by a fair margin in the ongoing PSL 2024. On a wicket that was not easy to bat on, the Sultans ended up getting an above-par total. Multan lost just two wickets and scored 185 runs on the board. Some poor bowling at the death including a lot of extras and a brilliant batting from Khushdil Shah towards the slog overs helped Multan to get to a good total.

Batting first, the Sultans did not get a good start. The opening duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Dawid Malan could not get going. While the skipper was dismissed for 11(12), Malan hung on and anchored the innings. Reeza Hendricks at the other end played a key role. The Sultans number three scored an unbeaten 79*(54) which included a brilliant finish. Malan perished after scoring 52 runs in 41 balls.

The star of the show was Khushdil who played a fine cameo towards the end. In his stay in the middle, Shah scored an unbeaten 28*(13). The brilliant efforts of Khushdil meant that the batting side had a lot on the board. Mir Hamza and Daniel Sams claimed a wicket each for Kings. Chasing 186, Karachi never seemed to be in the game. They lost wickets at regular intervals.

Multan Sultans’ bowlers effective in the second innings

Sultans bowled very well. The opening spells from David Willey and Mohammad Ali ensured the chasing side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. While Malan claimed wickets in the early stage, Ali claimed them in the later part of the innings. When Shoaib Malik was in the middle, it seemed like the Kings had a little chance of winning the game. His wicket led to the downfall of the chasing side.

From 99/3 after 13.1 overs at one stage, the Kings collapsed to 113/8 at the end of the 17th over. Abbas Afridi and Usama Mir bowled economical spells in the middle overs and claimed some important wickets. The target was a bit too much for the Kings. It was a lot for even someone like Kieron who could not get going as wickets fell from the other end. The sultans beat the Kings by 55 runs.
