Kane helps England reach the final

England has beaten Denmark to secure a place in the final of Euro 2020 against Italy at Wembley Stadium. 

It will be England’s first final at a national level since 1966 when the team beat West Germany to win the World Cup. 

England and Denmark both scored in the first half.

Denmark midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard scored in the 30th minute with a stunning free-kick.

The mid-fielder curled his effort over the wall and the ball had too much dip and power to breach Jordan Pickford’s outstretched right arm.

Prior to conceding a goal, England’s Jordan Pickford set a new record for an England goal-keeper for most minutes without conceding (721 minutes), overtaking Gordon Banks’ 720 minutes.

England mid-fielders Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips had a forgettable first half, failing to win a single duel.

England equalised when Denmark captain Simon Kjær scored an own-goal while trying to stop a cross. 

Kjaer’s own goal is the first one ever, the Three Lions have benefited from in European Championship history.

This was only the third time ever, that England got an own goal at a major tournament (against Czechoslovakia and Paraguay in 1982 and 2006 World Cups.

A goalless second half, during which possession was mostly dominated by England, took the match into extra time. 

The game looked on track for penalties until England Captain Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot, taking the game to 2:1.

England will face Italy in the final and try to reclaim a major football trophy for the first time in 55 years.
