DC women comprehensively overcame Gujarat Giants women by a margin of 25 runs to register their third win in a row in the WPL 2024. The runner ups of the inaugural edition left no stone unturned to cause an already troubled Gujarat Giants women. There seemed to be no fight from Gujarat in the game which disappointed their fans. However, DC women did not complain a bit.

Gujarat won the toss and elected to field first. DC women lost the wicket of Shafali Verma early. That was when Alice Capsey joined Meg Lanning and played some lovely shots. While Capsey perished after scoring 27(17), Lanning took some time to get set in the middle. There was a brief period when DC women found it difficult to get going.

That was when Annabel Sutherland played an impactful cameo and helped DC women to up the ante. Her 20(12) allowed Lanning to free herself and play till the end. The skipper of DC was back among runs as she scored 55(41). With some crucial cameo from Shikha Pandey towards the end, Delhi managed to post a good total of 163 runs on the board. It was a par score on a wicket like Bengaluru.

Gujarat Giants batters falter yet again

Chasing the total of 164, powerplay was going to be crucial for Gujarat Giants. But right from the start, they deployed a defensive method of batting. All their batters went to their shell and could not get going. DC women were accurate with their lengths and gave away nothing with the ball. With required rate skyrocketing, Gujarat Giants fell under pressure and threw away some of their wickets.

Barring Ashleigh Gardner, no other batter troubled the target. Her 40(31) saved Giants from a humiliating loss. It was the only positive for Giants from the game apart from the impressive four-wicket haul from Meghna Singh earlier in the game. Giants went down to Delhi by 25 runs. They have noe lost four matches in a row. The will now be desperate to win all their remaining matches in the league.
