Jay Shah is likely to become the Chairman of the International Cricket Council in November later this year. The post is currently held by New Zealand’s Greg Barclay, who has been in power since November 2020. As the tenure of the Kiwi will come to an end towards the latter part of the year, Shah can be the Chairman of the Board.

The current Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board will be the third person from India to become the Chairman of the Apex Board after the likes of N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar. Jay has been appreciated by the Cricket fraternity and Sports fraternity in general for his leadership.

Last year, the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board was awarded the Sports Business Leader of the Year 2023 for his leadership in helping the growth of cricket and some other factors. Under the leadership of Shah, a full-fledged Women’s Premier League was established in India for the first time in 2023.

Jay Shah likely to step down as ACC President

Likewise, Shah played a key role in cricket becoming a sport at the Olympics. In the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, cricket is all set to return in the biggest Sports event. Jay was also instrumental in making Pay parity a reality in Indian Cricket. Shah played a key role in the establishment and the upgradation of the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.

For these aspects, Jay was named the Sports Business Leader of the Year 2023. Given his ability to take the leadership of top boards forward, Jay is in the reckoning to be the Chairman of the International board later this year, as Greg is set to step down from his role in November.

If Shah must be in the race to become the Chairman of the Apex Board, he must not hold any major post in the Cricket field. Hence, Shah is likely to resign from the post of the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Reports claim that Jay might step down from being the Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board.
