Colombo Strikers and Galle Titans clashed against each other in the 20th and last league stage match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday, August 15. Galle convincingly defeated the Strikers by 8 wickets and with this loss, Colombo are out of the league.

Talking about the match, the Titans won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision proved right as they dismissed Galle’s 4 batters on the score of just 37 runs. Not a single batter could contribute anything big to the scoreboard as Galle were bowled out for just 74 runs in 15.4 overs.

Their star batter Babar Azam could only score 6 runs after playing 12 balls which included only 1 four. Colombo bowlers were phenomenal with the ball especially Tabraiz Shamsi who picked up wickets and conceded only 20 runs in his 4 overs quota. Seekkuge Prasanna took 3 wickets while conceding only 14 runs in the 3 overs he bowled.

I think 130-140 would have been a good score: Chamika Karunaratne

Chasing the target, Colombo also started horribly and lost 2 wickets on the score of just 19 runs. However, those were the only wickets Galle Titans were able to take as Lasith Croospulle and Shakib Al Hasan finished the match without any further loss. They chased the target with 8 wickets in hand and 11.3 overs to spare. Colombo skipper Chamika Karunaratne talked about the loss and said that 130 or 140 would have been a good score to defend on that surface.

“The toss was good. They bowled really well. We expected it to turn. We had to get some runs. Was in my slot. But was a bad day. I think 130-140 would have been a good score. They bowled well. This season was good. So many people came in and supported their respective teams. I wish all the teams the best of luck for the rest of the games.” Karunaratne was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
