The trade of Hardik Pandya was already a big sensation in the lead-up to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In addition, his appointment as the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) was not taken well by the fans of one of the most successful franchises. Rohit Sharma fans, in particular, were angry with the decision of MI to name a new captain despite having a terrific captain like Rohit, who has won 5 trophies in the IPL.
To date, Hardik is not well received by the fans of Rohit Sharma. Now reports have come up with the reason behind Gujarat Titans letting go of Hardik. One of the popular reports claims that GT did not want to let go of Hardik initially, but the demand of the player was huge and almost out of reach of the 2022 champions. The report claimed that GT is a different franchise than MI.
The report said that GT and MI have different cultures and goals. It added that CVC Capital paid INR 5625 crores to be a part of the IPL 2022. On the other hand, MI is a business family. Hence, the decision-making in both franchises are different. MI has straightforward decision-making, while CVC Capitals have a diverse portfolio and are controlled by different entities.
Hardik Pandya’s trade beneficial for Gujarat Titans?
The report further claimed that the trade of Hardik was not as plain as it was touted on paper. It said that on paper, it was a trade of just INR 15 crores. But in reality, there was a lot of money being paid by MI to buy Hardik. Reports claim an unbelievable price of INR 100 crores being paid by Mumbai Indians to Gujarat Titans, which seems highly unbelievable.
In turn, reports claim that Hardik himself asked for a huge sum to be a part of MI as well. Although the report did not reveal the price, it added that there was a huge sum paid by MI to get Hardik. The report has frightened the fans who are questioning the trading process in the league. If what they claim is to be believed, GT might have not minded the trade a bit.
