India have got themselves in a very commanding position with the massive 229-run stand for the 1st wicket in the first Test of the 2-match Test series against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. The Men in Blue ended with a score of 312 after the loss of 2 wickets at the end of the 2nd day on Thursday, July 14.

Meanwhile, India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, who was suffering from bad form for a while, smashed his 10th Test century against the Caribbean side. However, this is only his 2nd century outside home. The right-hander took 220 deliveries to achieve the milestone, which included 10 fours and 2 sixes. But couldn’t add more to his score and departed on the very next ball with a score of 103 runs.

Brilliant partnership by Rohit and Jaiswal

Talking about the match, West Indies chose to bat first after winning the toss. However, they piled up only 150 runs and lost all 10 of their wickets in 64.3 overs, exhibiting a terrible batting performance. Alick Athanaze was the only batter who could contribute to the scoreboard. Against the combo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, two dangerous-looking spinners, Athanaze played a superb innings of 47 runs.

In the longest format, Ashwin bowled exceptionally well and recorded his 33rd wicket. After giving 60 runs in 24.3 overs of bowling, the top Test bowler took 5 wickets. Coming to bat, Rohit and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed outstanding performance. Both scored centuries for themselves and set the foundation to put up a big lead.

It took Windies 75.4 to get the first breakthrough as they get rid of Rohit. Shubman Gill, who has been in prolific form recently, came to bat at no. 3 but departed after scoring just 6 runs. Jaiswal then joined hands with former India captain Virat Kohli and took the team’s lead to 162 runs with 8 wickets still in hand.
