MI New York clashed against Texas Super Kings (TSK) in the Challenger match of the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) on Friday, July 28 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. MI New York have kept the legacy of Mumbai Indians alive as they qualified for the final after defeating TSK by 6 wickets.

Talking about the match, MI won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision proved right as they dismissed the first 3 TSK batters inside the powerplay on the score of just 34. However, later, Devon Conway and Milind Kumar steadied the ship and stitched a 77-run stand for the 4th wicket.

However, both of them were quite defensive and the run rate was also getting decreased. Conway departed after scoring 38 runs off 35 balls which included 3 fours and 1 six. Milind also got dismissed on the score of 37 runs of 34 balls which included 3 fours and 1 six. A quick 17-run cameo from David Miller helped TSK to achieve a fighting total of 158 runs. Trent Boult continued his brilliance as he picked up 4 wickets while conceding only 24 runs in his 4 overs quota for MI.

We were controlling the game very nicely: Nicholas Pooran

Chasing the target, Shayan Jahangir provided a cracking start to MI. He smashed 36 runs off just 18 deliveries which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. He set the foundation for a successful chase for the upcoming batters. MI’s middle-order batters Dewald Brevis and Tim David did the rest of the work as both stitched a 50-run stand for the 4th wicket and helped the team to win the match by 6 wickets. New York’s captain Nicholas Pooran talked about the win in the post-match presentation.

“The message was about replicating our performance from yesterday. We felt that we were getting better as a team and were getting contributions from everyone. The openers gave us a start and Brevis took responsibility to play through that innings and then David came out and played that blinder. We were controlling the game very nicely, we bowled well tonight. Kenjige wasn’t needed tonight. Brevis really wanted to play and he’s grabbed his opportunities.” Pooran said in the post-match presentation.
