Venkatesh Prasad gave his honest review of India in 2023. The former Indian cricketer wished to see better from the players in 2024. Prasad was a key performer for India in the 1990s and was the bowling coach of India in the T20 WC 2007. The former Karnataka cricketer has been vocal about the Indian team in recent years and is expecting better performance from the side in the next year in 2024.

Taking to X, the former India pacer wrote that India had a year that could be best described as a year of ‘What could have been’. The right-arm bowler felt that the team performed well throughout the year but failed to give their best when it mattered the most in the finals. It is worth noting that the Indian team lost 2 finals in the year, both against Australia.

Venkatesh added that India dominated the ODI World Cup 2023 till the final and lost it in the final, which actually mattered. “Dominated the World Cup only to have a very bad day when it mattered in the finals. Lost the WTC finals as well,” added Prasad in his statement. The statement of Prasad was honest, as winning the final is what matters eventually, and people do not remember how one would perform in the league stage.

Venkatesh Prasad praises Travis Head

In both the finals India lost in the year, Travis Head played a key role. In the WTC final, Head scored 163 runs in 174 balls and took the game away from India. In the ODI WC final 2023, Head scored 137 runs in 120 balls including a catch of Rohit Sharma. “Travis Head was brilliant in both these games,” added Prasad as he praised the batting of the Australian batter.

Prasad hoped of a better year from India in 2024 as he wished India the luck. The former Indian pacer felt that India must start winning championships as it has been more than a decade since India won one. “Hope in the coming year, India starts winning Championships which has alluded them for more than a decade now. Wishing the best for Team India in the coming year and always,” concluded Prasad.
