The mini-auction for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place on December 19 in Dubai. A total of 333 players will be auctioned, however, the franchises have announced their retention and released players ahead of the auction. There were quite shocking names in the released list, however, they will be hoping to get a franchise in the upcoming auction.

The 2-time champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore announced on Thursday that Shreyas will be continuing as their captain for the upcoming season. While Nitish Rana who led the team in the previous season will be serving as KKR’s vice-captain.

“It was indeed unfortunate that Shreyas missed IPL 2023 due to injury. We are delighted that he’s back and at the helm as Captain. The way he has worked hard to recover from his injury and the form he has displayed is a testament to his character. We are also grateful that Nitish had agreed to step into Shreyas’s shoes last season and did a great job. There’s no doubt Nitish as Vice Captain will support Shreyas in every possible way for the benefit of Team KKR” Venky was quoted as saying by KKR’s social media post.

I am delighted that KKR has named Nitish Vice Captain: Shreyas Iyer

Talking about Iyer, he is currently with the Indian team for the South Africa tour and is included in all 3 formats. Iyer didn’t play the 2nd T20I of the series, however, there are high chances of him playing the 3rd match. Meanwhile, Iyer also talked about returning to the KKR squad as a captain and said that he is delighted to see Nitish has been named as the vice-captain.

“I believe the last season presented us with several challenges, including my absence due to injury. Nitish did a great job not only filling in for me but also with his commendable leadership. I am delighted that KKR has named him Vice Captain. No doubt it will strengthen the leadership group” Iyer said.
