IPL 2023 Predictions: CSK vs SRH

Published

on

Chennai Super Kings will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 29th game of the Indian Premier League 2023 on April 21 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

CSK endured their worst-ever IPL finish in the last season, where they finished 9th on the table.

But they seem to have gotten their act together this time around.

They have won three out of five games and are placed third in the points table.

They are flying after winning their previous outing against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 runs.

CSK’s Devon Conway and Shivam Dube scored 83 runs and 52 runs, respectively to seal a memorable win.

On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad has won two of their five games.

They are sitting second-last on the points table, with 4 points to their tally and a net run rate of -0.798.

Chennai and Hyderabad have faced each other in 18 matches in IPL so far.

Out of these 18 games, Chennai has won 13 whereas Hyderabad has come out victorious on 5 occasions.

Chennai have a dominant record over Hyderabad. CSK have also won four of their last five meetings with the Sunrisers.

Chepauk has provided good playing conditions for hitters throughout the years.

It is extremely dry and stiff and often crumbles as the game goes on.

The pitch has practically minimal grass cover, which has historically been advantageous to spinners.

A total of 6 matches have been played on this pitch, in which the team batting first has won 5 matches and the team bowling first has won 1 matches.

For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored 197 runs in four matches and has been their best batter. His batting average is 65.67, and he has two fifties to his credit.

Devon Conway has scored half-centuries in the last 2 matches and appears to be in good touch.

However, the team will want MS Dhoni to put in a match-winning performance.

In the bowling department, Tushar Deshpande is the highest wicket-taker for CSK this season but has been very expensive.

Pathirana and Theekshana have given away runs at a rate of over 10 runs per over.

Thankfully, the all-rounders, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja have done a good job and picked up 12 wickets between them.

Harry Brook’s career didn’t get off to a great start after he struggled in his first three outings for the Sunrisers.

He finally found his footing, though, and against KKR and hit an incredible 100 runs.

Umran Malik did not play against Mumbai and it’ll be interesting to see if SRH return him to the XI for this match.

They missed his outright pace and, in Chennai, his extra speed could be useful in conducive conditions.

Who will win

SRH is capable of upsetting CSK if Harry Brook, Markram or Tripathi play a big innings.

CSK’s bowling looks a bit wonky and SRH could exploit this weakness.

Our prediction is SRH will win this, despite CSK enjoying the home advantage.
