‘Inshallah bolne se sab ho jayega’ – Fans react as Pakistan’s team director Mickey Arthur claims they’ll win World Cup and Test series in Australia
Pakistan team director Mickey Arthur claimed that they’ll win the upcoming ODI World Cup in India and their Test series against Australia. Arthur made the claims a day after releasing his probable squads for the marquee upcoming tournaments – Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023. Talking of his plans for the Asia Cup and the World Cup, Arthur said, “We picked a squad that played against New Zealand. That is the squad we are going to draw from [for Asia Cup and World Cup]. Haris Sohail was in that squad but he didn’t play because of fitness issues. A couple of those guys have put their names up lately, but the squad we had for the New Zealand series and the squad that will go for these events won’t differ much.”
‘I don’t want players playing with an axe over their head’ – Mickey Arthur
Mickey Arthur mentioned that Pakistan have around 20 players to choose from and they would be further trimming it down to 15. “We had around 20 players in that series, we just need to cut it to 15. It is not going to differ much because I believe in giving security to players as that will give clarity to them about their roles in the team. I don’t want players playing with an axe over their head or with insecurity about their place,” he added.
Arthur also did mention the drama over the venues. Notably, Pakistan was involved in a disagreement over the conduct of the Asia Cup. The continental tournament will finally take place in a hybrid model and will be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The World Cup, on the other hand, will be solely hosted by India and starts on the 5th of October. The headliner clash between India and Pakistan will take place on 15th October at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
