India ended 2023 with a Test Match win against England and Australia to create a new sense of self belief. The ODI series against the Aussies though has brought the team back to earth with a thud. Alyssa Healy and her side won the series 3-0 margin with the last game seeing the Indian side getting thrashed.

Coach Amol Mazumdar has spoken about the need to do the basics right. India’s fielding approach has been shambolic and short of international standards. Catches being dropped and misfields has marred Team India’s new found image on the field.

Young batter Jemimah Rodrigues has also come out and sounded out a warning as the T20I series beckons. India and Australia will lock horns in a three-match T20I series which begins on Friday at the DY Patil Stadium.

India’s chance to rectify glaring mistakes –

After the 190-run loss in the final ODI game questions came hard at Harmanpreet Kaur the Indian skipper. Fans were aghast seeing the meek surrender from the home team during the white ball series.

Amol Mazumdar taking the media questions stressed on the fact that India had struggled to finish games. “Richa is our No.3, we believe that she can be a good top-order player. We believe in her talent and you’ve seen what kind of shots she can play. And if she can use the first 10 overs and then play according to the situation, that is the best spot for her. At least now we feel that Richa at No.3 will be a very good choice”’

Young Jemimah Rodrigues while speaking to the media said “I don’t think there’s any reason we can give, we need to accept what we’ve done. We’ve not played to our highest potential, especially in the fielding department there’s a lot of work we need to still continue (doing). We have been working on it but definitely not the standard expected for the Indian women’s cricket team. But I can assure you that we will work on it and come back stronger”

Australia will start favorites as the two teams meet yet again for the T20I series. Team India will hope that the fallacies of the last few days are well and truly behind them. With 2024 here the Indian eves will want to put their best forward this year.
