India VS Bangladesh: Rishabh Pant sits on the sidelines again.

Seeing Dinesh Karthik incur a back injury in the match against South Africa, fans expected to finally see Rishabh Pant breaking into India’s playing XI against Bangladesh. However, for the 4th successive match of the T20 World Cup 2022, Pant found himself warming the bench as the team management persisted with Karthik for the wicket-keeper’s spot.

At the time of the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma did confirm one change in the playing XI which came in the form of Axar Patel replacing Deepak Hooda.

Even though Rishabh Pant is regarded as one of the best wicketkeepers in the world, he hasn’t seized control of the position behind the stumps in limited-overs cricket. Karthik, a skilled “finisher,” is preferred by the Indian side over Pant, a versatile middle-order player. Despite not contributing much with the bat thus far in the tournament, Karthik is still trusted by the team management.

Pant is eligible to participate for the Indian team in addition to Karthik. Others believe that Pant ought to start at the top of the batting order in place of KL Rahul. Here is how Twitter users responded to Pant’s rejection:

India’s skipper Rohit said the following during the coin toss: “We would have opened the batting. The number of runs would be important. We would try to bat effectively. Every game is significant in this format. In the last game, we didn’t play very well. We’re hoping to play some solid cricket and secure those two points. Good surroundings and terrain here. The weather was also good. One change has been made. Axar will take against Hooda.”

Rahul and Karthik haven’t gotten off to a fast start for India in the T20 World Cup. One of them could not be able to play in the rest of the tournament if they lose to Bangladesh again.
