Aston Villa manager, Steven Gerrard is skating on thin ice.

Following the Villans’ 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, the club is languishing in 16th spot in the Premier League table after the ten games.

They are just a point above the relegation zone having won only two matches.

Their pathetic form has put Gerrard under intense pressure at Villa Park ahead of their upcoming matches against Fulham and Brentford.

As per rumours, Gerrard could be sacked if Aston Villa don’t beat Brentford in front of their own fans on Sunday.

Who could be his replacement?

As per reports, Aston Villa want Mauricio Pochettino to become their new manager as they consider replacements for Gerrard.

The 50-year-old ex-Tottenham boss has been earmarked as a possible replacement for Steven Gerrard following the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

Pochettino has been without a job since he was relieved of his duties by Paris Saint-Germain in July after just 18 months in charge.

Pochettino has ample Premier League experience and built his reputation as Southampton boss before heading to Tottenham in 2014.

The Argentinian turned Spurs from top four hopefuls into Premier League contenders and Champions League finalists.

Eventually, Pochettino left Tottenham in November 2019 after a poor start to the 2019-20 season.

Even though Pochettino only stayed 18 months in PSG, he won a league title and had a 65% win rate.

One man who would surely be excited by this news is playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho has history with Pochettino, having worked together at Espanyol.

In fact, they almost reunited at Southampton in 2013 before Liverpool jumped in.
