ICC T20: Aussies trump Windies

Warner, Hazelwood and Marsh starred in a convincing victory against West Indies as Australia nailed a semi-final spot.

Australia won the toss and elected to field first.

Gayle started well and hit two huge sixes but he was clean bowled by Cummins on 15 runs.

It might well have been his last game in the West Indies Jersey, he raised his bat while going to the pavilion and all the West Indies players stood up and cheered for the Universe Boss. 

After Gayle’s dismissal, Hazelwood picked up couple of wickets in the 4th over.

The West Indies side ended up their Power play with a score of 50-3.

Half the side was dismissed on 91 runs in 13 overs. 

Hazelwood shines with ball

Hazelwood bowled a magnificent spell as he picked up 4 wickets for 39 runs in his 4 overs.

He got the important wickets of Pooran and R. Chase in the same over and give his side a very wonderful start.

He further picked up the major wickets of S. Hetmyer and DJ Bravo in his next 2 overs. 

Russell-Pollard fought back in the death overs

Russell and Pollard played a superb cameo with the bat in the death overs and gave their team a very respectable total of 157 runs.

Pollard scored 45 runs off 31 balls including 4 boundaries and a six.

On the other hand, Russell made a quick fire 18 off 7 balls smashing 1 four and two huge sixes. 

Warner-Marsh match winning stand

Australia lost Finch early on in their chase but Warner and Marsh put up a match winning partnership.

Both of them played superbly and smashed the ball all over the ground.

Australia scored 53 runs in the Power play and they lost just 1 wicket.

Warner played a match winning innings after a long time in T20 cricket

Warner scored 89 runs off 56 balls ( 9 fours and 4 sixes). 

Mitchell Marsh also scored a brilliant fifty.

He is having a good 2021 with the bat.

Marsh scored 53 runs off just 32 balls including 5 fours and 2 sixes.

When the scores were level, he was dismissed on the last ball of Chris Gayle’s over.

A forgettable tournament for the Defending Champions 

West Indies, a team full of T20 specialists and all-time T20 greats failed to deliver once again and they ended their T20 world cup 2021 campaign with yet another defeat.

West Indies lost 4 out of their 5 matches and this world cup proved to be a nightmare for them.

The defending Champions entered this world cup as favorites and there was a lot of expectations from them but they failed badly.

The 2 time Champions need to rebuild now and try to come back stronger in rhe next year. 

DJ Bravo, The End of an Era

DJ Bravo didn’t have a good farewell spell as he conceded 36 in his 4 overs without getting any wicket but he has had a wonderful career.

He was a star all-rounder and a great entertainer.

He was one of the best T20 players in the world and his services will always be remembered.
