‘I am not really sure’ – Pakistan legend on Shaheen Afridi’s bowling speed
Pakistan’s fast bowlers have come under scrutiny following their lack of pace in the first Test match against Australia in Perth. With Haris Rauf choosing not to play in the current three-match Test series against Australia and Naseem Shah recovering from an injury, Pakistan is severely limited in terms of fielding a strong speed bowling lineup.
Shan Masood’s deputy Shaheen Shah Afridi bore most of the responsibility due to his lack of expertise, but even he had trouble keeping up the pace. Pakistan’s legendary pacer Waqar Younis criticised the left-arm pacer, stating that he will turn into a “medium pacer” if he keeps up this behaviour.
Afridi’s pace woes: Concerns Raised by Younis Khan
Afridi averaged approximately 130 kmph in the first Test, but in the second innings, he dropped to a high of 120 kmph.
“I am not really sure what is wrong with him. If he is not fit, if he has got some issues, he needs to go away from the game and fix that because if you just gonna carry on like that, you are going to become a medium pacer,” Younis told ESPNcricinfo.
“He used to bowl 145 to 150 kmph in the odd days with swing in it. What I am seeing right now is yeah there is a little bit of swing there but his pace is way down. That is not gonna get him wickets. If you not gonna get wickets in here, you are not going to get it anywhere.
