Hurt after being overlooked, Prithvi Shaw scores stunning T20 century

Prithvi Shaw smashed a 61-ball 134 for Mumbai against Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in Saurashtra on Friday.

This was his first century in the 20-over format.

Amazingly, Shaw hit 13 fours and nine sixes for a boundary percentage of 79.

He played out only 14 dot balls in total.

Shaw, captain of the side in this match, reached his half century in just 19-balls.

He shared a 61-ball 114-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the second wicket.

Mumbai posted a mammoth 230 in their 20 overs, before bowling out Assam for 169 as right-arm pacer Tushar Deshpande bagged three wickets.

Eventually, he reached his century in 46 balls before ending up on 134 runs off 61 balls, at a strike rate of 220.

Shaw was recently overlooked when India announced their squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa that concluded on October 11.

Hurt by this snub, the 22-year-old had taken to Instagram to share a cryptic message, “Don’t trust their words, trust their actions, because actions will prove why words are meaningless.”

Shaw last played for India in July 2021, during their tour of Sri Lanka and is desperate to make a comeback.

Despite a promising start to his international career, a suspension for using banned substances stalled his career.

He has played just five Tests, six ODIs and a single T20I for India.
