He’s back! AB De Villiers joins RCB for IPL 2023!
Ab de Villiers, a renowned middle-order batsman, has returned to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
After declaring his retirement from all forms of cricket last year, South African cricket icon and former Royal Challengers Bangalore star middle-order hitter AB de Villiers has re-joined the Bengaluru-based Indian Premier League team. The right-handed batter, who is 38 years old, arrived in Bengaluru on Thursday and announced his presence on Twitter.
“Great to be back in Bangalore. Just checked in to the ITC Royal Gardenia for the first time in many years! So many great memories flowing back. Also been told this is my 25th time checking in here Tele is on and ready for the Pak/SA game. Go Proteas,” he tweeted at 12:32 PM.

He has joined the franchise, according to the franchise’s official Twitter account, which also posted a video of him leaving the airport.
Ladies & Gentlemen, the super human is here and he’s telling you why. Welcome home, @ABdeVilliers17 ❤️#PlayBold #WeAreChallengers pic.twitter.com/3FgCxYGd3f

They missed to say, though, in what role he joined the franchise. He has joined the team’s backroom personnel to make decisions regarding player retention and get ready for the forthcoming mega auction because it is expected that he would serve as the mentor for the Virat Kohli-starred side in the upcoming season of the cash-rich league.
In his playing career, AB de Villiers participated in 184 IPL games across 14 seasons, and the 2022 season marked the first time he sat out of the wealthiest franchise cricket league in the world. Even though AB de Villiers’ RCB team failed to capture any IPL championships, he is still very well-liked in the capital of the southern state. One of the top batters to play in the IPL is him.
