‘Hence the name Quin-TON! Take a bow’ – Fans react as Quinton de Kock smashes his 19th ODI century during ODI World Cup clash against Australia
Australia and South Africa the 2 most dominating teams in the history of the ODI format are clashing against each other in the 10th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday, October 12.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s star opener and wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock smashed his 19th ODI century in the first innings of the match. The star left-hander achieved the milestone in just 90 balls which included 8 fours and 5 sixes. Fans have flooded social media with lots of praise for de Kock.
Talking about the match, Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first. Australian captain Pat Cummins said that he believes that the wicket got a bit of moisture due to which he thought that the bowlers would have some movements in the starting overs. Apart from that, he also revealed the 2 changes they made against South Africa. Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis come in for Cameron Green and Alex Carey.
“We are going to have a bowl. Not too sure what to make of this wicket. It seems like it’s got a bit of moisture. Two changes. Stoinis is back in place of Green and Josh Inglis comes in for Alex Carey. A few runs short (vs India), really happy with the way we bowled. They (South Africa) have started the tournament really well, always a good challenge.” Cummins said after winning the toss.
Shamsi has had decent success against Australia: Temba Bavuma
South African skipper Temba Bavuma said that he wasn’t sure what to do first. However, he revealed that their star spinner Tabraiz Shamsi is replacing Coetzee in the squad. He said that Shamsi has a brilliant record against the Kangaroos and that’s the reason why he’d like to introduce him against them.
“I wasn’t too sure, whatever we do first, we’ll have to do well. Shamsi comes in for Coetzee. Bit of both (conditions and for the opposition). Shamsi has had decent success against them, we’d like to unleash them. There could be some spin and bounce. We always speak about assessing and trying to adapt, today will be no different. Quinny and myself should have a look in the first five overs and then see what could be a good score for us to post.” Bavuma said during the toss.
