In a shocking development, Satish Kaushik, Hindi cinema’s popular face in comedy and character roles, died at the age of 66 on Thursday.
The actor suffered a heart attack on the way to Fortis Hospital in New Delhi.
His colleague and noted actor Anupam Kher shared the news on Twitter this morning and offered condolences over Kaushik’s death.
Anupam Kher said that Satish was at a friend’s home in Delhi, when he complained of uneasiness.
“He felt uneasy and he told driver to take him to the hospital and on the way he suffered a heart attack around 1 am,” Anupam Kher revealed
Kaushik will be taken to Mumbai for his last rites.
Last rites will most likely be performed at his Yari Road, Versova residence in Mumbai, as per his relatives.
Kausik was 66. He is survived by wife and daughter.
Kaushik was an alumnus of National School of Drama, New Delhi and Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
Satish Kaushik was born on April 13, 1965, in Haryana.
He was an actor, comedian, screenwriter, director and producer. Before finding his break in Bollywood, Satish Kaushik worker in theatre.
After making his debut with Shekhar Kapoor directed Indian drama Masoom, Satish Kaushik subsequently appeared in several critically acclaimed films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Utsav (1984) and Saagar (1985).
He gained mass popularity with Mr. India (1987) where he played the role of Calendar.
Satish Kaushik has also featured in films like Sajan Chale Sasural (1996), Deewana Mastana (1997), Brick Lane (2007), Kaagaz (2021) among others.
Satish Kaushik also won the Filmfare Best Comedian Award in 1990 for Ram Lakhan and in 1997 for Saajan Chale Sasural.
He most recently appeared in the film Chhatriwali in the year 2023.
Apart from acting, Satish Kaushik has also directed and produced several films.
He assisted the stalwart director Shekhar Kapur in Masoom (1983) and made his directorial debut with Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993).
After the failure of his directorial debut, Satish Kaushik took a break from direction for six years and came back to deliver a super hit with his comeback film Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain.
He subsequently directed Muje Kucch Kehna Hai (2001), Badhaai Ho Badhaai (2002) and Tere Naam (2003).
Satish Kaushik made his production debut with Aatank Hi Aatank (1995) and later produced films like Mr. Bechara (1996), Kyon Ki (2005) and Dhol (2007).
The actor will next be seen on the big screen for the last time in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
He played the role of late Defence Minister Jagjivan Ram in the historical movie which revolves around the troubled period of India’s Emergency in 1975-76
