Indian cricket team are having a hard time in the ongoing 5-match T20I series against West Indies. The Caribbean side are currently ahead with a 2-0 lead over the Men in Blue and if India lose the 3rd match of the series, they will also lose the series as well. The reason behind India’s bad performance so far is their poor batting display.

Meanwhile, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was impressed by the young batter Tilak Varma and lauded his performance in the first 2 matches of the series so far. Varma dazzled with his batting abilities, amassing 90 runs from two matches at an impressive strike rate of 142.85 and an average of 45.

“The emergence of Tilak Varma has made everyone take notice of him. He looked in imperious touch even on that slow pitch in 1st T20I. His batting style is very unlike for an Indian making his international debut. His game resembles a lot like Rohit Sharma. He sweats on the pull shot.” Ashwin was quoted as saying by Sports Tiger.

“This is neck-and-neck with respect to the World Cup. So, will they think about Tilak Varma as an option if we don’t have enough backups? Tilak Varma is a left-hander and Team India is lacking left-handers.” he added.

There is no space for Sanju in the top 4: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin talked about Sanju Samson who failed to score big in the first 2 matches and said that there is no space for the right-hander in the top 4. Ashwin also doubts Samson’s spot after the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. It’d be interesting to see if Samson managed to get a place in the upcoming major world event or not.

“There is no space for him in the top 4. Whether there will be a spot for him after the World Cup or after one or two years after the World Cup, we will have to wait and watch.” Ashwin said.
