Harmanpreet wears sunglasses to hide tears, after India lose!
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur had an emotional moment during the post-match presentation of the World Cup semi-final against Australia.
She wore sunglasses to hide her tears because she didn’t want her country to see her crying. It was a testament to her character as a cricketer, a leader, and above all, a human being.
Harmanpreet battled illness, and if it wasn’t for the World Cup, she may not have even played this match.
Despite this, she gave it her all on the field, like a woman possessed. The right-hander smacked the Australian bowlers all over the ground and took India to a commanding position.
But it was not to be. India lost the match by five runs in yet another heart-wrenching last-over thriller after the sorrows of the 2017 ODI World Cup final and the Commonwealth Games gold medal match last year.
Harmanpreet’s moment of glory was cut short when she was run-out in one of the most bizarre ways possible.
Her bat got stuck inches before the crease, and she was run-out for 52 off 34 balls when India needed 40 off 32 balls. It was a telling blow.
Australia got a new lease on life and started applying the pressure back. It was too much for the other Indian players to handle, and they fell five runs short of Australia’s total.
The defeat was heartbreaking, and it was visible on the faces of Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, and Sneh Rana. But Harmanpreet had the added responsibility of facing the camera directly as the captain of the team.
She composed herself and fulfilled her post-match broadcast commitments, wearing sunglasses to hide her tears.
In her interview, Harmanpreet expressed her disappointment with the way she got run-out but emphasized that putting in the effort was more important.
She commended Jemimah Rodrigues for her crucial knock of 43 off 24 balls, which gave India the momentum they needed.
Despite the defeat, Harmanpreet promised that India would improve and not let their nation down like this again.
It was a poignant moment that showcased the passion and dedication of the Indian team and their captain.
The loss may have been painful, but it was clear that they would come back stronger and better prepared for the next World Cup.
