Australia and Bangladesh clashed against each other in the 43rd match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 in Pune on November 11. The Australian displayed a magnificent batting performance to defeat the Bangla Tigers by 8 wickets and 5.2 overs to spare.

Meanwhile, Australia’s star all-rounder was the star of the chase as he played one the best ODI knocks of his career smashing 177 runs off just 132 balls and also remaining unbeaten. His innings included 17 fours and 9 sixes. Fans have reacted to this knock and have praised him on social media.

Talking about the match, Australia won the toss and elected to field first. Bangladesh’s openers provided a strong start, adding 76 runs at a rate better than a run per ball. While several key Bangladeshi batters showed promise, only Towhid Hridoy surpassed 50, scoring 74 runs with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Brilliant batting display by Australia

The Bangladeshi batters exhibited some careless running between the wickets, with Marnus Labuschagne contributing two crucial run-outs, disrupting Nazmul Shanto’s and Mahmudullah’s starts. Sean Abbott and Marcus Stoinis collaborated effectively in the final four overs. However, the Bangla Tigers crossed the 300-run mark for the first time in the tournament, marking their best batting performance.

Chasing the target, Australia faced an early setback with Travis Head departing during the powerplay. However, Marsh and David Warner steadied the innings, consistently finding boundaries and applying pressure. Although Warner reached a half-century before departing, Marsh continued, securing his second century in this World Cup.

Steve Smith, returning after missing the previous game, secured his second fifty of the tournament, contributing to the accomplished run-chase. The overall performance enhances Australia’s confidence, especially as they look forward to a semi-final clash with South Africa.
