After a few days of break, the ongoing CPL 2023 resumed with a game between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs. It was a reverse fixture between both sides as their previous game this season was won by Amazon by 34 runs. Talking about both teams, the Warriors were coming off a four-win streak. On the other hand, the opposition had the opposite fortune.

Meanwhile, in this game, the five-time finalists, the Warriors won the toss and bowled first. Romario Shepherd cleaned up former England player, Alex Hales. At 23/1, the likes of Brandon King and Kirk McKenzie put together 50 runs with the former doing the heavy lifting. McKenzie (13) got out to Imran Tahir while Gudakesh Motie cleaned up King (52). The defending champions, Tallawahs were reduced to 111/5 with Imad Wasim and Shamarh Brooks failing as well.

Cameos from Raymon Reifer (20*) and Fabian Allen (21*) helped the team reach 152/5 at the end of their innings. Dwaine Pretorious took two wickets while Romario Shepherd, Imran Tahir, and Gudakesh Motie took one each.

Guyana Amazon Warriors thrash Jamaica Tallawahs in their first home-leg match

The home side had a great start as Pakistan international Saim Ayub and Matthew Nandu out together 112 runs for the first wicket. The former did the heavy lifting as Nandu scored 37 off 35 balls. On the other hand, Player of the Match, Ayub hit 85 off 53 balls including five fours and as many sixes.

Thanks to the left-hander’s innings, the Red Army was in control of the chase. In the end, they chased down the target in just 18.3 overs and seven wickets in hand. With this win, the home side is now looking like favorites to finish in the top two. This means that if they have a bad day in Qualifier One, they still get another chance to play the final. However, including this game, the rest of the tournament will be played in Guyana anyway.
