KL Rahul made a decent comeback in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023 for Team India and played an integral role in winning the trophy. After getting recovered from the thigh injury that he suffered during the IPL 2023, he played practice matches but sustained a niggle which ruled him out of any action in the group stage.

Then, he joined the team in the ‘Super 4’ stage and got a chance in the Pakistan clash in place of Shreyas Iyer who got ruled out just before the start of the game due to a back spasm. Rahul grabbed the opportunity with both hands and smashed 111* runs. Then, in the next three matches, he batted only twice and ended the tournament with 169 runs.

“KL Rahul provides you that stability.” – Gautam Gambhir

Despite batting, he showed his fitness by doing wicketkeeping duties in those 50-over games. He managed to grab four catches, including three in the final. So, fans were happy to see him performing as the ODI World Cup is near. Now, the former Team India international and LSG mentor, Gautam Gambhir lauded KL Rahul for providing stability in the middle order.

During a discussion on Star Sports, Gambhir said: “The most important thing is stability. You need a batter at No. 4 who can give you stability because you don’t want to put the entire pressure on your top three. KL Rahul provides you that stability.”

“KL Rahul has the ability and the shots where he can change his batting tempo at any time. However, more important than that was that he scored a century in his first game against Pakistan after coming back from injury and he looked in a totally different rhythm after that,” Gambhir concluded.  Now, KL Rahul will be in action in the upcoming home ODI series against Australia. In fact, he will lead the team in the first two games as Rohit Sharma has been given a rest.
