The first match of the T20I tournament in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 was played between Nepal and Mongolia at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou on Tuesday, September 26. In a remarkable display of power-hitting and cricketing prowess, Nepal’s national cricket team etched their name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the first team ever to score 300 runs in a T20I match.

This milestone was achieved in a recent T20I encounter that left cricket fans around the world awe-inspired. However, what caught the most attention was the standout performance by Dipendra Singh Airee, who stole the limelight with his incredible batting performance. Dipendra Singh broke the legendary Yuvraj Singh‘s long-standing record for the fastest 50 in T20Is against England in 2007.

Yuvraj’s record of a half-century in 12 balls had stood untouched for years, but Dipendra Singh shattered it, achieving his fifty in a mere 9 balls. His explosive batting left the opposition bowlers bewildered and the spectators in sheer amazement.

Brilliant all-round performance by Nepal

Dipendra remained unbeaten on the score of 52 runs off just 10 balls which included 8 sixes. Apart from him Kushal Malla also displayed a magnificent batting performance and smashed 137 runs off just 50 deliveries. During this, he hit 8 fours and 12 sixes. Both helped the team to achieve a monumental total of 314 runs. Mongolia tried multiple bowling options but none of them could do anything. Mungun Altankhuyag conceded 55 runs in just 2 overs.

Chasing the target, Mongolia were bundled out for just 41 runs in 13.1 overs. Davaasuren Jamyansuren was the only batter to achieve a double-digit score which was only 10 runs. Nepal bowlers were right on the target throughout the innings and won the match by 273 runs.

This historic moment is not only a source of immense pride for Nepal but also a reminder of the unpredictable and thrilling nature of T20 cricket, where records can be broken, and history can be made in the blink of an eye. However, it’d be interesting to see if Nepal keep the same form against big teams like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
