Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel play the leading parts in the movie. The film Gadar 2 is a follow-up to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), in which Sunny played truck driver Tara Singh and Ameesha Patel played Sakeena. The movie took place in 1947, the year that India was divided. In Gadar 2, Tara Singh is seen crossing the border in a risky attempt to free his son, Utkarsh Sharma, who is being held captive in Pakistan.

Sunny recently announced a special Gadar 2 screening in London. The crowded showing was sponsored by the Nehru Centre, a cultural arm of the Indian High Commission in London, and took place on Monday at the Vue Cinema in Leicester Square. It was during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown that the concept for a sequel to a classic movie from 22 years ago crystallised and “clicked straight away” for Sunny, who admitted he was “scared” to take on the project.

According to Sunny, who was reported by the news agency PTI, “Indians all over the world are enjoying this film; I can’t even begin to describe how lovely it is. I never anticipated it to turn out like it did or to be where it is now. Every woman wants her husband to be like Tara Singh and every man wants his wife to be like Sakeena, in my opinion. The main USP (unique selling point) of the story is the family and how they manage to resist everything together.”
