Steven Finn has opened up on England’s chances in the Test series against India. The 5-match series is set to begin on the 25th of January and will happen till the 2nd week of March. It will be one of the marquee Test series in 2024 and everyone is excited about it. The former English pacer revealed the differences between how things were in 2012 and now in 2024.
In 2012, England was the last team to beat India in India in a Test series. Finn was a part of the series and felt proud about the win looking back. Only a few sides have managed to win Test matches let alone winning the series. England know how to win the series in India. Finn said that in 2012, no English player was a superstar in India and felt that it acted against England.
The former English pacer felt that barring Kevin Pietersen, the Indian crowd did not know other cricketers. Finn added that currently many cricketers have become superstars in T20 leagues and have taken part in the IPL over the years. Finn emphasized the fact that having home support would be very important to face India in cricket.

‘We know how polarizing the Indian cricket team can be to their public depending on how they are playing’ – Steven Finn

“I think the IPL superstardom of some of the players will count to England’s benefit. Kevin Pietersen aside, that 2012 team, people weren’t really superstars in India, whereas you have quite a few guys this time going over who have played in the IPL and are superstars in that. I think that will count,” said Finn in his statement. Steven felt that England must try to get the support of the Indian fans.
Finn believed that Indian fans can have polarizing views on the team based on their performances. “If they play well and give a good account of themselves, as the series goes on that tide can turn, because we know how polarizing the Indian cricket team can be to their public depending on how they are playing,” added Finn.
