EPL: Spurs stun Man City
In a major upset, champions Manchester City kicked off their Premier League title defence with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.
Harry Kane was left out by Nuno Espirito Santo for his first game in charge after returning to training on Friday.
City began with great pace and urgency, slicing Spurs open frequently.
But after having failed to score, they became increasingly ineffective and also looked vulnerable on the counter‑attack with Lucas Moura a constant menace.
In fact, Moura started the movement that led to the goal.
He hooked a ball clear to Steven Bergwijn who drove forward and passed to Son Heung‑min on the left who cut inside and bent a shot into the far corner.
Son’s first goal of Nuno era proved to be the match-winner.
This was his fourth consecutive strike at home against City.
Steven Bergwijn fluffed the chance to double the lead after clipping the side netting.
Jack Grealish was handed his debut while Kevin de Bruyne made his return but neither could stop City from falling to defeat.
Pep Guardiola’s hoodoo in north London continues as his side fall to a fourth consecutive defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
