EPL Predictions: Man United vs Arsenal

Published

on

Arsenal will face their first big test on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford.

They will clash with a rapidly improving Manchester United side at the Theatre of Dreams.

In their last match, Erik ten Hag’s side eked out a narrow 1-0 winners over Leicester City on Thursday evening.

The Gunners also continued their winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa.

Arsenal are flying high after their perfect start.

They won all of their first five fixtures against Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham and Aston Villa in August.

Head to Head record

This will be the 237th meeting between the two sides.

Arsenal have won 85, drawn 53 and lost 98 of these to Man United.

In the League, it will be their 207th meeting.

The Gunners have picked up 73 wins, 49 draws and lost 84 times.

Team News

Man United’s big ticket acquisition Antony will be on the bench and might get some minutes.

Antony was bought from Ajax for £85.4m and plays in the same position as Sancho.

The other addition to the squad will be Martin Dubravka, who will provide backup and competition to David de Gea.

United have a lot of fitness issues to grapple with.

Winger Anthony Martial is out of contention due to injury.

Facundo Pellistri and Brandon Williams are also injured, adding to Erik ten Hag’s woes.

Full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw were also absent in the win over Leicester due to minor niggles and it’s hard to say if they will be fully fit.

However, Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia are in good nick and injury-free.

We might see Casemiro and Cristiano Ronaldo playing together in United jerseys for the first time ever.

Ronaldo has a good record against the Gunners scoring both home and away against them last season.

For Arsenal, the midfield duo of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are suffering from thigh injuries.

Obviously Arteta is worried about his midfield.

This lead to a frantic attempt to prise away Douglas Luis from Aston Villa in a deadline-day transfer saga, which didn’t succeed.

Worryingly, the goalie Aaron Ramsdale and midfielder Martin Odegaard also sustained knocks in the midweek win over Aston Villa.

Ramsdale might be fine but if Odegaard’s ankle problem persists, Emile Smith Rowe will be his replacement.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is yet to return to team training following a knee injury and is set to miss out again.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is expected to retain his place.

Brazilians Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are fully fit. They have been fantastic for Arsenal this season.

The Gunners have scored 13 goals, third highest in the league – with six coming from the Brazilian duo.
