EPL: Liverpool vs Man United Predictions

Manchester United and Liverpool, the two most successful teams in the history of English football, will renew their rivalry on Wednesday evening.

The Merseyside outfit are hoping to equal Man United’s league trophy count this season and are also chasing Champions League and FA Cup glory.

Having already bagged the League Cup trophy, an unprecedented quadruple is up for grabs for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Manchester United, on the contrary, have had a pretty forgettable season.

They had to rely on a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick to edge past relegation favourites Norwich this weekend.

Rangnick’s challenges

While the win has taken the Red Devils to fifth place above Arsenal, their persistent defensive struggles will leave wrinkles on manager Ralf Rangnick’s forehead ahead of the Anfield trip.

Knocked out from all other competitions, a fourth-place finish is the best possible outcome for United this season.

But with only two wins to show for their last eight Premier League outings, a top-four finish sounds rather ambitious as well.

Injury woes

Rangnick will have to make do without Fred and Scott McTominay again, who are nursing hip and foot injuries, respectively.

He won’t have the option to call up Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw too, who are likely to be absent for the rest of the season.

The match might come too soon for Raphel Varane, who is eyeing a return for injury too.

Some reports claimed that Mason Greenwood has returned to training.

In reality, however, the club’s stance regarding the youngster hasn’t changed and he remains suspended for the sexual abuses charges brought against him.

Jesse Lingard was a surprise inclusion in the Manchester United starting XI against Norwich.

While the 29-year-old had a decent game against the Canaries, Rangnick might go for more defensive protection to contain the furious Liverpool attack.

That means, he could favour Aaron Wan Bissaka or Nemanja Matic over Lingard.

Bruno Fernandes suffered a car accident on his way to training on Monday. Thankfully, none of the involved parties was hurt.

It has been confirmed the Portugal international will be available for selection against Liverpool.

Problem of plenty for Klopp

The home side have no injury concerns to deal with.

Diogo Jota was a doubt for Liverpool’s FA Cup semifinal tie against Manchester City, but the Portuguese attacker was fit enough to make the bench and come on as a sub later on.

Jurgen Klopp could make some shakeups to the starting XI and rest some players ahead of a busy schedule which could see the Reds play as many as 11 games over 40 days.

Ibrahima Konate is likely to make way for Joel Matip.

Jordan Henderson could come into the lineup instead of Naby Keita, and Roberto Firmino could join Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the attack.

Our Prediction

Anfield has not been a happy ground for Manchester United in recent times.

They did not win away at Liverpool since 2016, and in their last six visits, they managed to score only once.

This season, the Reds are in red hot form, scoring more goals and conceding less at home than any other team in the division.

Even the stardust of Cristiano Ronaldo might not be enough for United to not return empty handed from Merseyside.

Liverpool will be eager to displace Manchester City, who don’t play until Thursday, from the Premier League summit.

In the reverse fixture, Liverpool raced to a 5-0 victory at Old Trafford.

The scoreline might not be so dramatic this time around, but we expect another Liverpool win.

Predicted Score: Liverpool 2:0 Man United
