Eoin Morgan retires from international cricket

England’s white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan is set to announce his retirement from all forms of international cricket.

It will be the end of a fantastic white-ball International career, spanning over 15 years.

Morgan made his international debut for Ireland in 2006.

However, he later switched allegiance to England in 2009.

Recently, Eoin Morgan had expressed his desire to lead the England cricket team at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 later this year.

However, his present batting form and fitness were a growing concern for England.

This might have prompted his decision to retire from the sport.

Morgan’s form has been dismal in recent times.

In his last two ODI matches, Morgan bagged a couple of ducks against the Netherlands.

He has just two fifties to his name in the last 28 international innings.

Earlier this year, Eoin Morgan failed to interest any of the Indian Premier League franchises and remained unsold in the auctions.

His career has also been hampered by fitness issues.

The English captain has not been able to play regular matches due to muscle injuries in his right leg.

Overall, Eoin Morgan has played 379 International matches, scoring 10859 runs across all formats, at an average of 35.60.

He has sixteen centuries and sixty-four half-centuries to his name at the International level.

The biggest highlight of Eoin Morgan’s career was the ICC World Cup 2019.

He led the England team to their maiden World Cup title.

Jos Buttler, who has been Morgan’s deputy, is likely to take over the ODI captaincy duties for England.
