Euro 2020: Why England can win it

England is in pole position to lift the Euro 2020.

They looked solid but not spectacular in the initial stages of the tournament.

As the business end of the Championship looms, they have cranked up their form and are looking like genuine contenders.

Even better, they have been presented with a favourable draw, thanks to Belgium and France falling by the wayside.

Here are 5 reasons why we consider England hot favourites to lift the Euro 2020 trophy.

Defensive strength

Gareth Southgate’s side have not conceded a single goal in their five games so far.

They are the only team in the tournament, to have kept clean sheets in every game.

This speaks volumes about the defensive organisation, that has been further bolstered by the return of Harry Maguire.

Jordan Pickford has looked fully in control. He didn’t produce spectacular saves but prevented Ukraine from scoring when England needed him the most.

Part of the praise for England’s five clean sheets in the tournament deservedly goes to him.

It won’t be easy for any team tp break this England team down.

England are clearly superior compared to Denmark, Italy or Spain, and with a potential final in Wembley, with fans by their side they could go all the way.

Kane’s desire

Harry Kane had a wretched beginning to the tournament but has turned up just in time.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has netted three times in the last two games and looks to have rediscovered his best form in the most crucial stretch of the tournament.

More importantly, Sterling is linking up with Kane beautifully.

Against Ukraine, Sterling’s pass for Harry Kane’s first goal was exquisite.

The Manchester City forward has proved that, apart from scoring, he can also set up his teammates and that adds another dimension to the forward line.

Lots of experience

One of the reasons England did not go all the way in Russia was because the side did not contain the necessary experience of navigating the key matches and lifting trophies.

This has been addressed in the current squad.

Jordan Henderson has lifted the Champions League and the Premier League in the years since.

Trippier won the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid.

Moreover, six other squad members featured in the Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City which gives the squad ample big-match experience.

Creative talent

Last but not least, England has players like Grealish, Foden and Sancho who are creators par excellence.

They add the silken touch to the steely spine represented by Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

With the unique vision and dribbling skills, they can unlock any defence.

No wonder, England is our top pick for the 2020 European Championship.
